Can Centri-Kid accommodate a camper with special needs?
A.
We will do our best to work with our staff and facility staff to make the necessary accommodations for kids with special needs. However, this needs to be discussed with Pastor Jason immediately so that it can be discussed with the Centri-Kid staff. Please do this prior to paying your deposit.
Q.
I noticed on the Centri-Kid website that it lists children that have completed the 3rd grade can attend? Why does everything I have seen from Ray City FBC state 4th grade?
A.
It is the decision of each church as to what age children are old enough to participate in camp and certain activities. Although LifeWay/Centri-Kid does allow 3rd graders to be included, we feel that it is best to begin allowing children to attend camp once they have completed the 4th grade. Other churches might allow those that have just completed the 3rd grade to attend. We have similar restrictions in place for our youth events as well.
Q.
I noticed on the Centri-Kid website that there are many locations and dates for Centri-Kid- including camps that are for a full week. Why July 16-18 at Norman Park?
A.
One word- location, location, location! Norman Park is about 45 minutes from Ray City FBC. In addition, it is a beautiful college campus setting in a very small town. This means great security and accomodations. Plus, there are plenty of large open areas for recreation and everything is right there together. I (Pastor Jason) have been to several camps where you had to walk a long time to get from place to place- this is not what you want for a children's camp.
The reason that we selected a weekend camp versus a week-long camp is that we feel that it is best to introduce children, some of whom will be away from home for the first time, to a camp setting that is a lot shorter in duration. Knowing they will go home 'the day after tomorrow' helps settle many children's (and parents!) anxieties over being separated. Of course, the extremely close location of Norman Park would allow you to quickly come and pick up your child if needed.
Another reason that we selected a weekend camp is money! Obviously, 5 full days of camp are much more expensive than 2 and half days of camp. However, if Centri-Kid is successful and there is a demand, we will look into the possibility of a week long camp for our 5th and 6th graders.
Q.
My child might fail the 3rd grade. Can they still go to Centri-Kid?
A.
This is decided on a case by case basis and is at the sole discretion of the Associate Pastor.
Q.
This sounds like fun and with it being so close is there a way I can participate in anything?
A.
Unfortunately the answer is most likely no- unless you attend as a chaperone. Seating is very limited at the worship services and is reserved for campers and chaperones. This is also done for safety and security reasons. However, if the opportunity arrises, we will let parents know!
Q.
What are the ages for Centri-Kid?
A.
Centri-Kid is open to children who have completed the 4th, 5th, or 6th grade.
Q.
What does my child need to bring to camp?
A.
Bible, shorts and t-shirts, shoes-tennis shoes for recreation and sandals if desired, personal hygiene items, favorite pillow, money for snacks and items in the store and other optional items such as a camera. Specific details will be provided at a later time.
Q.
What does my child need to leave at home?
A.
Alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs, fireworks, any kind of weapon, radios, portable CD players, MP3 players, iPods, water guns, water balloons, skateboards, and rollerblades (this includes “Wheelies”). Once again, more specific details will be provided at a later date.
Q.
Who are the Bible study leaders?
A.
The Bible study leaders are carefully selected college and seminary students from across the nation that have been employed by LifeWay Christian Resources/Centri-Kid to serve as their staff for the summer. Camp Directors are those that have several years of experience with Centri-Kid.
Actually for everything your child receives, the cost is very low. In fact, the actual cost to send a child to Centri-Kid is $150.00 per camper. Due to the generosity and graciousness of the members of Ray City FBC, we are able to only charge 50% of the camper's total cost. Remember, the $75.00 includes registration, lodging, all meals at camp, and a t-shirt. It is an investment in your child's eternity!
Q.
Why is the deposit NON-REFUNDALBE, NON-TRANSFERRABLE? What does this mean?
A.
Unfortunately this means that once you pay your $50.00 deposit you will be unable to get it back. This includes emergency situations- even acts of natural disaster or terrorism that could keep Centri-Kid from occuring. This is LifeWay's policy for all of their camps (Centrifuge, M-Fuge, Crosspoint, Centri-Kid) and not the policy of Ray City First Baptist. However, we have to follow it in order to participate in the camp.
Q.
Will other groups be on campus while we are there?
A.
Sure. Although CentriKid will use most of the housing at each camp location there may be other visitors to the campus, conference center, or resort your group attends. And of course, there will be other churches there taking part in Centri-Kid.
Q.
What does Centri-Kid promise to provide my child?
A.
Come to camp and know you'll get these four things:
1) A safe place! We take safety seriously, and make it a priority with kids. At camp you’ll find a safe place for kids—emotionally, spiritually, and physically. You can rest assured that our trained staff value the safety of your kids!
2) Ministry through Relationships! Our staff will invest in your kids’ lives by showing the love of God through they way they live. Staffers aren’t performers; they are ministers. Meanwhile, we take care of all the details of camp, so you can focus on relationships with your kids rather than running around with a clipboard delegating tasks, or worrying about picking up the rec field.
3) Age specific Bible study groups! At LifeWay, we’re always learning more about kids. We know they learn differently at each stage of life. We train our staff to teach kids about Christ in a way they can grow and learn with kids their own age. In addition to Bible study, we keep God’s Word at the center of every aspect of camp.
4) Kid friendly programming! We are committed to providing excellent programming, that keeps kids engaged. We work hard to stay at the top of our game when it comes to planning and leading recreation, worship, Bible studies, track times, and parties.
Q.
What adults will attend as chaperones? This sounds like fun, can I go?
A.
The adults that attend as chaperones are members of Ray City First Baptist Church that have successfully completed a criminal background check and are normal volunteers in our children's ministry. There are times when parents are also allowed to attend as chaperones. However, please note that once our chaperone limit is reached, additional parents wanting to attend will have to pay the same amount as their child. Also, all adults that attend will be subject to a criminal background check. Final decision of who is allowed to serve as a chaperone is at the discrection of the Associate Pastor.
